I feel the same way about news sites—I just want to read the article, not see a "trending" sidebar with a thousand other things. I think everyone is just fighting for our attention these days. I’ve been spending my evening looking for a new desk lamp, and even the shopping sites are full of "people also bought" and "frequently bought together" pop-ups. It’s so distracting when you’re just trying to do one simple task. I miss the days when a website was just a page of information and nothing else. Anyway, back to my lamp search!
